PEPÁḴEṈ HÁUTW̱'s work is is a continuation of ancestral wisdom based on traditional ecosystem restoration, and developing educational resources.
We hope to share the importance of native plants and encourage people to grow and plant them whenever possible. In addition, we would love to inspire folks to start their healthy food gardens and take an ecological approach to return native plants to their schools, backyards, communities and parks.
SṈIDȻEȽ (Tod Inlet, Gowlland-Tod Provincial Park) is an important place to the W̱SÁNEĆ peoples.
ȾIKEL (Maber Flats) was once prized as a gathering place for basketry and rope making materials.
W̱SÁNEĆ is a partnership project between the PEPÁḴEṈ HÁUTW̱ Foundation and the Horticulture Centre of the Pacific.
A partnership between us and the Tsawout First Nation to restore and protect the cultural heritage of this important village site.
ȾIX̱EṈ (Cordova Spit) is a sandy spit located at Tsawout First Nation, a diverse shoreline ecosystem rich in traditional medicines.
PEPÁḴEṈ HÁUTW̱ is currently collaborating with youth initiatives from our partners to build programming that will provide opportunities for W̱SÁNEĆ youth and community members to engage in this healing work at QENENIW̱.
The success of the first S,DÁYES community volunteer day in November 2022 encourages us to plan for more of these great chances to connect communities to do the healing work at QENENIW̱.
Through our PEPÁḴEṈ HÁUTW̱ Program, we plan for students from ȽÁU,WELṈEW̱ Tribal School and W̱SÁNEĆ Leadership Secondary School to come out for restoration days at QENENIW̱ in 2023. With consideration to cultural safety and respect for the homeland spaces of Tsawout First Nation, wider community members may also be involved in this work as appropriate.
